This is one of the most common magnetic particle techniques. These techniques use an induced magnetic field to detect surface or near-surface imperfections. With dry powder MT, a dry iron oxide powder is sprinkled over the surface after inducing a magnetic field with a central conductor, coil, or electromagnetic yoke. Wherever the magnetic field is distorted, the powder gathers on the surface outlining the crack, unfused area or other discontinuity.
