Microhardness

Micro-hardness testing is typically used to assess hard case depths, surface plating, diffusion hardening processes or discrete phase hardness. Special sample preparation techniques are required including mounting, polishing and, in some cases, etching a material prior to testing. Micro-hardness testing generally consists of two types, Vickers, as per ASTM E-92, and Knoop. Vickers hardness consists of a 136„a diamond pyramid indenter, and Knoop an elongated diamond indenter, using applied forces from 25 gf to 10kgf.
